I have been using saw palmetto for sometime. I've been using it for male pattern balding. It blocks DHT and reduces BPH. I reccently read that it also help flush testosterone out of your system. People use it in combination with Vitex to achive natural chemical castration!!!!!!!!!!! Geessssss, Thats scary and thats the last thing I need or why don't I just take anti-androgens, Depot medroxyprogesterone, estradiol valerate and see what happens to my boy!

Nothing significant I'm sure, seeing as how many men take saw palmetto.
PS.-- It protects your prostrate, does very little for keeping your hair. |

Your question is answered in the article linked below. The short answer is that it does not affect hormone levels in areas other than the prostate, thus no side effects and no hair loss prevention.

If it reduces DHT at prostate, then it reduces the DHT at the scrodial area. Which in turn will reduce libido. Since, there are DHT receptors responsible for erectile functioning in the area and obviously the prostate.

Saw palmetto has not had any effect on sex drive in any of the studies on it, of which there are a lot.

I had a bad prostate infection which affected me for about 3 years and during that time I was taking saw palmetto ( and anti-biotics, under my urologists suggestion) and I had no problem with my libido, that is if you have BPH your libido might be affected by the discomfort associated with the condidition. I found though that as my prostate slowly healed and I went off the saw palmetto my vascularity increased and so did my strength. Of course over 3 years there are too many variable to just account this on the saw palmetto but that is my experience.
