Started no carbs Sunday (7/13) evening right after a big pasta dinner.
No carbs and roughly the same nutritional regiment as the first week.
Today, Wed (7/16) came off night work at 0800, 20 minutes speed jump rope and 1 ECA capsule. A half hour later, 16 oz coffee with 1 oz. whole milk and 2 eggs, 3 bacon strips. Lots of water and my Glucose disposal supps. Very light purple on the keto strip at 1100 hrs. so I checked my Blood Glucose level-71. Not bad. I did another 10 minutes of jump rope and chilled out for a while laying in the sun on the pool float. I could feel the slight increase in my pulse, estimated at about 100 bpm at rest.
1300 hrs, small lunch (3 spare ribs and 1 tbsp MCT oil) not much of an appetite because it's hot today.
1330 hrs. was getting ready to take a shower and felt a little winded (felt like ketosis was setting in) so I pissed on a strip and it flashed right to moderate purple. BINGO, right on schedule. I'll check my BGL before I go to bed tonight.

Overall, I feel a little tired, probably from night shift and the effects of the ketosis. No appetite and a little acidy in the stomach (using Rolaids).

I will let you know my progress in a couple of days.

goodluck with the bodyopus. I don't remember my exact measurements but I was running bodyopus for awhile and taking the blood glucose readings and they were NEVER as low as I ever expected.

What really pissed me off is that I was eating as close to ZERO carbs as possible while my wife was doing an atkins variant which allowed her some carbs...and I tested her blood and it was lower reading than mine.

That's when I started getting really demotivated and said screw it.

I'd really be interested in seeing what Goats Rue does for you. You can but it in bulk online...but supplement manufacturers have never taken advantage of it:

QUOTE

Galega officinalis has been known since the Middle Ages for relieving the symptoms of diabetes mellitus. Upon analysis, it turned out to contain guanidine, a substance that decreases blood sugar by decreasing insulin resistance.

Chemical derivatives from the biguanide class of medication include metformin (Glucophage, commonly prescribed for diabetics) and the older, withdrawn agent phenformin.

Goat's Rue is also cited by the SAS Survivial Guide by John "Lofty" Wiseman, as having a sedative effect on fish. The roots and flowers are the most potent, but the most common method is to simply crush the entire plant and throw into a body of water with restricted flow. The fish that then float to the top are safe to consume.

QUOTE

The biguanide class of anti-diabetic drugs, which also includes the withdrawn agents phenformin and buformin, originates from the French lilac (Galega officinalis), a plant known for several centuries to reduce the symptoms of diabetes mellitus.[7]

Metformin was first described in the scientific literature in 1957.[8] It was first marketed in France in 1979, but did not receive approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Type 2 diabetes until 1994.[9] Bristol-Myers Squibb's Glucophage was the first branded formulation of metformin to be marketed in the United States, beginning on March 3, 1995.[10] Generic formulations are now available.

Thursday 7/17/08- Woke up at 0830. Speed jump rope for 20 minutes off and on. Water, coffee and supplements. Checked BGL at 1030- 67, light purple on the keto strips. Ate breakfast, showered then chilled out for an hour. Went to the gym for abs and 35 minutes of cardio, kept HR at 140+/-, good sweat.
Came home and checked keto strips, light purple. BGL-86.
I firmly believe now that regardless of the state of ketosis, my BGL will not go below 60 or so.
I said before that I am very insulin sensitive. I believe this could be part of the problem with the results on the glucometer. Others have stated the same in this thread.
The good part is that the keto strips are showing ketones present which will only happen in ketosis.
I lost 5 pounds since Sunday and feel a little shaky because of the extra cardio while in a state of hypoglycemia. But I don't feel ill or tired. The waistline is feeling a little smaller as well.
Tomorrow evening will be the total depletion workout and the start of the carb-up weekend. I am looking forward to that.
I will continue posting my progress.

The weekend went well. I had an engagement party for my daughter outside and around the pool with lots of food on the grill. I ate well, loads of carbs, a few beers and a little junk food...you know...homemade strawberry shortcake, Italian pastries, etc.
Started another keto week on Sunday evening, same as last.
Today (Tues 7/22) worked lower body today, and upper body yesterday. Should hit ketosis in the morning, will do 20 minutes of cardio.
I Feel good but, this will be my last week of BodyOpus. I do miss my favorite morning meal (oatmeal blueberry protein pancakes with natty PB on top) and my pasta (can't always wait til the weekend for that). I miss the summer fruits and vegetables that I usually consume in large quantities. Watermelon, Jersey corn, peaches, and tomatoes...my mouth is watering. tongue.gif
My waistline is trim, my goals have been fulfilled. I still have a couple of days until my Saturday carb up. Looking forward to Pizza again. The meals get repetitious. I recommend this at 2-3 week intervals with a couple of weeks off with good nutrition habits in between.
It is a good plan for losing body fat and getting a good glycogen fill. It's not for everyone, and it does involve a little more weight lifting than I normally do.
Until next post...

Carb-up starts first thing tomorrow morning after breakfast with some carbs before my depletion workout.
My waist mid-navel measurement is about 35", scale weight is only a few pounds lighter and body fat is much lower than when I started. Proves that the best way to lose fat without muscle is CKD.
I'll post final stats after the weekend.

Quick note about glucometer. This morning after 30 minutes of jump rope and continuous purple keto strips, I decided to check my BGL before I ate. It read 106. I think the glucometer is an inaccurate way to check BGL while in ketosis. I think somebody already said that in this thread. Lesson learned. I wonder if Duchaine suspected this?

First thing Saturday morning- ate my oatmeal blueberry protein pancake with natty PB on top to get out of ketosis.
1-1/2 hours later, hit the gym. Man, what a jungle. I couldn't believe all of the people in the gym on Saturday morning, probably all getting their "beach pump" up. Anyway, did the total depletion workout in 90 minutes (had to scale it down due to the crowd). Came home with, surprisingly, a decent pump (no glycogen left in my body), a little shakey, and Jonesin' for some sugar. Scale weight 188.
Made a Myoplex strawberry with 20 extra gms of Anywhey, 5 gms glutamine, 5 gms CEE, 30 gms powder grape drink, and 75 gms dextrose. Talk about a sugar buzz...felt wonderful. Repeated in 2 hours without the CEE. Repeated in 2 hours again with less dextrose and no CEE or glutamine. Great pump, felt like a kid that had a free day in the candy store. 2 hours later, steak dinner, sweet potato, salad, fruit. Lots of water all day.
Carb-up day is great, I even enjoyed a little cherry licorice and some ice cream later in the evening. I didn't however, eat every 2 hours throughout the night like I'm supposed to during the first 24 hours. Anyway, woke up this morning and the stomach was still flat (mid-navel 35"), and the muscles looked full. I am happy about this program. CKD is the best fat-burner available. The scale weight is probably back up to 190 today (I don't own a scale) because of the glycogen replenishment. Goes to show, scale weight is only a tool.
It doesn't require a lot of discipline, only that you can't cheat and eat carbs during depletion days unless you want to cheat yourself. No carb days take away the hunger pangs associated with high-carb eating.
