The shirt press and the bench press are two entirely different lifts and involve different muscles and a different ROM. To call them the same lift is just flat out dishonest. So, let's take a vote and seltte this worn out futile arguement once and for all! I'll go first.

Wouldn't raw benchers run the risk of getting hurt more? Especially once you're working with 600+lbs.
I don't think anyone wants that. It would be a short raw benching career. Maybe that's why working with a shirt not only makes it more fun (progress a lot faster) but maybe limits the injury risk? If you can't lift the weight without getting hurt, then you need to lower the weight. It's that simple.
